BIIAB Award for Personal Licence Holders Course
The BIIAB Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders is the government approved qualification required by anyone wishing to apply to their local authority for a Personal Licence to sell alcohol.
A Personal Licence allows the holder to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol in England, Wales and the Scilly Isles. This is in conjunction with any premises which holds a Premises Licence, Club Premises Certificate or Temporary Event Notice (TEN) for the retail ‘Sale of Alcohol’.
To sell alcohol, a premises with a Premises Licence must also have one person appointed as the Designate Premises Supervisor. A Designated Premises Supervisor MUST have a Personal Licence.
Operating a Premises without meeting the legal criteria could lead to prosecution. If convicted, an individual could receive a penalty of up to a £20,000 fine and/or 6 months imprisonment.

The Exam – Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH)
To achieve the Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH), an individual is assessed through a 40 minute, 40 question multiple-choice exam; Individuals must obtain a minimum of 28 correct answers out of 40, to pass and be awarded their APLH certificate. The original certificate is required to make an application for a Personal Licence.
The APLH exam is invigilated by our expert trainers following the BII approved exam process, answer papers are securely collated and sent to the BII for assessment. Results are usually available within 2 working days.
